Dehydration: seniors, a population at risk

Encourage them to drink, even without thirst!
The sensation of thirst decreases with aging. What are the signs? Dry mouth, wrinkled skin, diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue

In case of doubt, it is imperative to alert his doctor and drink plenty: 1l at least 1.5 liters per day, and more in some situations (malnutrition, poor appetite, heat , medical treatment…).

Tips for preventing dehydration

      • Drink small amounts throughout the day
      • Variety/Pleasant change: water (flavored or not), tea, coffee, chicory, dairy drinks, fruit juices, soups, soft drinks… enjoy!
      • Convenience: keep a bottle of water and glasses close to their place of seating or bedside
      • Adress the fear of incontinence
